Steven Wriggle
The HighVis Cabinet is designed and engineered by a former firefighter and certified fire and explosive investigator. Steven Wriggle of Summit GLS is a named inventor on U.S. Patent No. 11,143,372, Safety device cabinet with a safety switch having an integrated light, issued October 12, 2021, together with co-inventor Dorothy J. Wriggle.
Why Steve built HighVis
"I designed it because of the Station Nightclub Fire," Steve says. "An extinguisher was 85 feet away from the stage." The February 20, 2003 fire at The Station nightclub in West Warwick, Rhode Island killed 100 people (NIST investigation).
He also sees the cabinet as more than emergency equipment: "a subliminal education piece in constant display, bringing a new perspective to fire extinguisher locations." Lit 24/7, a HighVis cabinet teaches people where the extinguisher is every day they walk past it.
Fire investigators work backward from what is left after a fire. That view shapes the HighVis design: equipment that works only helps if people can find it, identify it and know what to do with it in the seconds that matter, often in smoke and darkness.
